I’m not exactly sure when that happened.
I have an MBA. A career. A teenager. A mortgage. Bills. Dogs. A house that constantly needs something. I make decisions at work all day long, manage people, solve problems. and somehow other adults regularly ask me what we should do.
Which is honestly a little concerning.
Because I still Google things that I feel like a woman in her 40s should probably already know.
I still sometimes look at a bill and think, Didn’t I literally just pay you?
I still walk into a room and completely forget why I went in there.
And there are days when dinner is a carefully planned mean and days when dinner is ordering a Pizza.
So if adulthood comes with a moment where you suddenly feel like you have everything figured out, I’m still waiting for mine.
I really though I’d know what I was doing by now.
When you’re younger, 40-something sounds VERY grown.
Surely by then you have your career figured out. Your finances are perfect. Your house is organized. You exercise regularly. You meal prep. You know exactly what you want in a relationship. Your laundry is folded AND put away.
😂
That last one should have been the giveaway.
Instead, I’m discovering that being an adult is mostly just figuring things out as they happen.
You solve one problem and three more appear.
You finally get ahead financially and your A/C all of a sudden stops working.
You decide you’re going to start eating healthier and someone suggests going out for dinner.
You sweat you’re done with dating apps and three days later you’re staring at your phone wondering if maybe you were just using the wrong one. Then download a new one.
And parenting? Just when you finally figure out how to parent a kid, they become a teenager and apparently all previous training is void.
So why am I starting a blog?
Because I know I can’t be the only one.
I can’t be the only woman who has built a life she’s proud of and still occassionally wonders what the hell she’s doing.
I can’t be the only mom trying to raise a good human while also realizing that somehow the tiny person who used to need me for everything is becoming an actual adult.
I can’t be the only woman trying to balance a career, money, motherhood, dating, friendships, family, a house, health, and approximately 847 other things while simultaneously being told that I should prioritize “self-care”.
Sure. I’ll pencil that in between the laundry and my existential crisis.
This isn’t going to be a blog about having life figured out.
Quite the opposite.
It’s going to be about figuring it out as we go.
What you’ll find here.
Career stuff. Motherhood. Dating in your 40s-which honestly deserves its own investigative documentary. Money. Going back to school as an adult. Trying to take better care of yourself. Friendships. Family. The random things nobody warns you about.
There will probably be some good decisions.
There will definitely be questionable ones.
And I’m sure there will be plenty of moments where I think, Well….that didn’t go according to plan.
But that’s kind of the point.
I don’t want this to be another corner of the internet where everything looks perfect.
I want it to feel like we’re sitting at the kitchen table with coffe – or a glass of wine, depending on the day – talking about the things we’re all dealing with but don’t always say out loud.
Because maybe adulthood isn’t about finally having everything figured out.
Maybe it’s just getting a little better at figuring it out as you go.
And if that’s the case?
Apparently, I’m doing just fine.
Probably.
Welcome to Apparently I’m the Adult.
